A Little Rain, A Lot of Love

A Session That Was About So Much More

Some sessions are about more than just pretty pictures. As a Milestone Photographer and portrait photographer, they’re about pausing to celebrate something you’ve been praying for, dreaming of, or maybe even keeping a sweet secret. Heather and Davis’ pregnancy announcement session was exactly that—a joyful, love-soaked afternoon we’ll all remember… even when an unexpected summer shower rolled in.

When my sweet friends asked me to document this milestone, I couldn’t have been more excited. These are the kinds of sessions I love being part of—the beginning of a brand-new chapter. As a Milestone Photographer, it is an honor to tell these stories.

The Plan (and the Pivot)

We had a plan.
Cute props? Check.
Glowy light? Yep.
Solid location? Done. We met at Stones River Battlefield in Murfreesboro, TN, one of my favorite spots for sessions like this. It’s peaceful, full of soft evening light, and perfect for soaking in a season worth celebrating. Many clients love working with Milestone Photographers at this location.

And then… the rain came.

Not a storm, but one of those surprise summer showers that rolls in out of nowhere. One minute the sky was glowing, and the next I was watching the clouds roll in, calculating whether we could wait it out.

Blankets, Laughter, and Grace

We made a run for the trees, me holding a blanket over Heather’s head while the rain pattered down around us—because, of course, the umbrellas were still in the car. And here’s the thing: they didn’t let it throw them off.

They laughed. They stayed close. They rolled with it.

That kind of ease says so much. You can’t fake it. And honestly, it made the photos that followed even sweeter. In fact, I’m always grateful for the real moments I get to witness as a Milestone Photographer.

A Session Worth Remembering

When the rain let up, we picked up right where we left off. If you look closely at the first photo in their gallery, you can still spot a few tiny raindrops suspended in the air. But the rest of the session felt effortless.

Davis made Heather laugh. They shared quiet moments. They were fully present—with each other and with the hope of what’s to come.

They’re already such a team. And this baby? Already so loved.

Why I Love What I Do

Photographing milestones like this one—the kind filled with meaning, joy, and a little bit of unexpected real life—is exactly why I love what I do. Milestone Photographers have the unique opportunity to capture life’s most cherished moments.

These two are going to make amazing parents, and I feel so lucky to help tell the beginning of this story.
